is 4-6 inches deep and perfectly clear.\u00a0 It runs out the far end (where we&#8217;ve put a gabion to slow it down) and thence across the grass, sometimes (as now when the land is sodden) eventually into the old ditch drainage, still perfectly clear.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, the seasonal creek, a day after another flood event, is still carrying enough sediment that the water is cloudy, even at the very shallow edge:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-777\" title=\"north-creek-turbidity220\" this tiny white-flowered mustard-family plant (not sure which&#8211;you can just see the first green seedpods&#8211;probably linear&#8211;below the middle clump of flowers)&#8211;with an early, very small fly.\u00a0 Each flower was perhaps 1\/4 inch across.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-778\" title=\"white-mustard-flowers225\" src=\"http:\/\/www.80acresonline.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/white-mustard-flowers225.jpg\" alt=\"white-mustard-flowers225\" width=\"336\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.80acresonline.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/white-mustard-flowers225.jpg 336w, http:\/\/www.80acresonline.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/white-mustard-flowers225-300x237.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 336px) 100vw, 336px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>These were blooming alongside the mowed north maintenance trail, about halfway between the creek and the dry woods.\u00a0 Up in the dry woods, I found the first alfilaria flower, its fernlike leaves casting sharp shadows on a
