{"id":419,"date":"2009-09-12T16:55:19","date_gmt":"2009-09-12T22:55:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.80acresonline.org\/blog\/?p=419"},"modified":"2009-09-12T16:55:19","modified_gmt":"2009-09-12T22:55:19","slug":"water-water-everywhere","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.80acresonline.org\/blog\/?p=419","title":{"rendered":"Water, water, everywhere&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;means plenty for wildlife to drink.\u00a0\u00a0 And plenty for us to rejoice over.\u00a0 And me to wade in, while going out to take pictures of this bounty.\u00a0\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a view of the near meadow&#8230;you can compare it to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.80acresonline.org\/blog\/?p=352\">July 6 picture<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-420\" title=\"flood-near-meadow130\" src=\"http:\/\/www.80acresonline.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/flood-near-meadow130.jpg\" alt=\"flood-near-meadow130\" width=\"197\" height=\"300\" \/><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I ventured out between rains to get some pictures,\u00a0 with the camera in a plastic zipper-bag and a rain jacket just in case (wise decision&#8211;the rain caught me later in the walk)\u00a0 and since it was so warm decided to wear shorts and mesh wading shoes instead of jeans and rubber boots.\u00a0 It was fun to wade in the ankle-deep water draining off the grassland, as in the near meadow.<\/p>\n<p>Below the dry woods, there&#8217;s a dip we call the dry woods swale&#8211;it&#8217;s almost a spring, though it also captures runoff.\u00a0\u00a0 We put a gabion at the low end to slow the runoff and hold water up there a little longer.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-421\" title=\"flood-dry-woods-swale134\" src=\"http:\/\/www.80acresonline.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/flood-dry-woods-swale134.jpg\" alt=\"flood-dry-woods-swale134\" width=\"198\" height=\"302\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.80acresonline.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/flood-dry-woods-swale134.jpg 198w, http:\/\/www.80acresonline.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/flood-dry-woods-swale134-196x300.jpg 196w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 198px) 100vw, 198px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This picture faces sort of west, and I headed northwest to reach the north fenceline at the creek.\u00a0\u00a0 My husband had already been along the south fenceline and said the creek was out of its banks there, and the overflow channels were also full (hurray!)\u00a0 but I wanted to see the north end.\u00a0\u00a0 The north end is the only place we can get vehicles across (and only after we put rocks.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 But nothing&#8217;s crossing there today:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-423\" title=\"flood-tractor-crossing136\" src=\"http:\/\/www.80acresonline.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/flood-tractor-crossing136.jpg\" alt=\"flood-tractor-crossing136\" width=\"310\" height=\"207\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.80acresonline.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/flood-tractor-crossing136.jpg 310w, http:\/\/www.80acresonline.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/flood-tractor-crossing136-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 310px) 100vw, 310px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The creek was fairly roaring (I could hear it by the time I was halfway across the west grass), and though it was falling (you can tell by the &#8220;collars&#8221;
