{"id":241,"date":"2009-05-01T08:47:34","date_gmt":"2009-05-01T14:47:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.80acresonline.org\/blog\/?p=241"},"modified":"2009-05-01T18:13:03","modified_gmt":"2009-05-02T00:13:03","slug":"new-species-on-the-place","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.80acresonline.org\/blog\/?p=241","title":{"rendered":"New Species on the Place"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was out photographing wildflowers yesterday, after returning from the trip, and saw something I thought at first was an unfamiliar butterfly or moth, orange with black-tipped wings.\u00a0 It flew oddly&#8211;more mothlike than butterfly-like, but not quite that, either.\u00a0\u00a0 Once it landed, I was able to get a first shot, then&#8211;slowly sneaking in,\u00a0 and using the zoom&#8211;closer ones.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-242\" title=\"net-winged-beetle039\" src=\"http:\/\/www.80acresonline.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/net-winged-beetle039.jpg\" alt=\"net-winged-beetle039\" width=\"245\" height=\"312\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.80acresonline.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/net-winged-beetle039.jpg 245w, http:\/\/www.80acresonline.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/net-winged-beetle039-235x300.jpg 235w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 245px) 100vw, 245px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>That is no moth!\u00a0\u00a0 The saw-toothed antennae say &#8220;beetle of some kind&#8221;&#8211;but most beetles have hard elytra instead of membraneous forewings&#8211;these were real wings.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 And what about that beak-like thing?<\/p>\n<p>This morning, while loading the images into the computer, I vaguely remembered something about &#8220;soft-winged&#8221;
